REMINDER: No More Brush Pick-up by Town
As first announced in the June Bulletin, Town Maintenance will no longer pick up brush piles from privately owned land. Our trash contractor will pick up properly prepared brush. Only brush that is bagged, bundled or placed in properly marked containers will be picked up by Montgomery County Sanitation & Recycling. For those residents who trim back Town walkways, you must arrange this with Steve Werts - he will assist you in trimming and will be responsible for the removal of the trimmings. Please contact Joe Clark in reference to this type of trimming; 301-869-7944 or woodherb@gmail.com Putting your yard waste in piles next to the avenue or roadway is no longer an option-it will not be picked up.

The combination lock has been changed at the lake. To get the new number, please call the Town office, Hutch (301-926-8767), or anyone on the Lake Committee. PLEASE DO NOT pass out the new number to non-Grovers, or children that cannot be trusted to protect this "secret/private" number. Thank you for your cooperation. In response to several requests, we are experimenting with combination locks with more readable numbers that can be more easily read, but have not yet found any satisfactory replacements. If you have any suggestions, please contact John Hutchinson or Bruce Rothrock.
Party Permits: They are required if you want to have a group at the lake. Please call Sally Mansfield (301-977-3189) for a Party permit.

Incident Report:
- July 9: Theft from vehicle. 100 block Washington Grove Lane - During the night, four unlocked cars were ransacked. A GPS, change, and a gym bag filled with clothes were taken. Insurance cards and registrations were not taken.
- July 15: Drunken disorderly. Intersection at Chestnut Rd and Railroad St. - At 10:30 AM, a resident witnessed a man, who appeared to be drunk, disrobing. Police were called.
- July 19: Reckless driving. Intersection at Center St and Hickory Rd. - A resident reported that a driver raced around the corner without stopping. The resident and leashed dogs were nearly run off the road.
Reminder: This time of year we often experience a rise in incidents, especially break-ins and theft. Please remember to lock your home doors and accessible windows when you are away even for a short time. Lock your car doors. Do not leave any valuables in your car. Small electronic devices are prime targets.
Please report criminal or suspicious activity to your Neighborhood Watch Block Captain or Coordinators. Filing a police report, too, helps the police department keep track of criminal incidents and is necessary for police to take action. Of course, for emergency situations call 911.
The Montgomery County Police Department has implemented a new online system for residents to report non-emergency crimes. The new system called On-Line Citizen Reporting System went into effect September 21. Note that you must have a valid email address to file a report online. You may file an online report for a crime if: (1) it is not an emergency, (2) it occurred within Montgomery County, (3) it is not motor vehicle accident, (4) property stolen is valued less than $10,000, (5) there are no known suspects, and (6) it did not occur on the interstate. 12Second Fire Board Member Still Needed
The Board is an integral part of the Town's effort to stay connected with, and support, the Gaithersburg-Washington Grove Fire Department. They meet once a month from 4:00 - 4:30 in the afternoon to approve financial issues. If you want to volunteer for this position, please call the Town Office, 301-926-2256.
13House Histories - Name this Home » 103 Grove Avenue
If you guessed Holly (Under "103 Updates & Anecdotes") home of Sandy Klingenberg, you got it right! Sandy has many questions about her house that cannot be answered by House Histories on the Town website. Among them: Who were the original owners (before the Reid's in 1888)? When was the side fireplace added? The property at 105 Grove Avenue was originally part of 103 Grove. Does anyone know if there was a dependent structure at 105 (for servants?) Do others have knowledge of the lore that an upstairs back bedroom was used as a birthing room? If you have any information (substantiated or not) about the earlier days of Holly, or photographs, would you please share them with us? You may hand-deliver information to the Archivist c/o the Town Office, or pass it along electronically (washgrove@comcast.net), or ask us to pick it up from you!
