"Simply the best clarinetist in the world..." opens Mousetrap's tenth season, accompanied by piano, in music of Mendelssohn, Poulenc, Hasse and Gabay. What tops off this initial celebration? The Brahms Trio for Clarinet, Piano and Cello, op. 114, composed after Brahms heard the wonderfully expressive voice of the clarinet and entwined it with those of the piano and cello, played by Tanya Anisimova for this performance.
From Milano, via Barcelona to Washington Grove comes a beautiful voice to bring us the drama of Wagner! The melodies of Mascagni! The emotion of Verdi! A November feast for all opera devotees. Add some lieder for dessert, and we have a vocal concert to give thanks for.
Winner of the 2007 Concert Artists Guild International Competition, this young powerhouse plays with stunning technique and intense emotions. Her Mousetrap program showcases a 19th century Grande Sonata by Tchaikovsky, preceded by 20th century music from the varied pens of Debussy, K. Szymanowski, and Miaskovski. You heard her here!
McCathran Hall's fine acoustics will resound as we wind up a terrific season with winds: flute, clarinet, oboe, French horn and bassoon. This superb ensemble sprang from the Yale School of Music and now is in demand throughout the US and over-seas. The program closes out our tenth season with dances, bagatelles, something new, something old, and great things in between!
