Town Council Minutes [ Feb-09a #2 ]

Mayor Anderson called the regular meeting of the Town Council to order at 7:50 p.m. In attendance were Councilors Charlie Challstrom, Joe Clark, Georgette Cole, John Compton, Kathie Evans and Marida Hines. Also in attendance were residents Ann Briggs, Ed Roberts, Bruce Rothrock and John Tomlin.
Approval of the Agenda
Georgette Cole moved to approve the agenda. Charlie Challstrom seconded the motion. Vote: 6-0.
Trail Work in the East Woods
Georgette Cole asked for clarification concerning the fire lanes in the East Woods. The issue is whether the existing straight trails were to remain in that configuration or to be reconfigured to mitigate the erosion problem. The fire department has been consulted and they say that a reconfiguration of the straight trails will not affect their ability to fight a fire in the woods. Ann Briggs (on behalf of the Woods Preservation Group) added that the first efforts will be a reconfiguration of the Cherry Avenue trail. This will be done on March 28th with volunteers.
Council Reports
- Marida Hines made note of a correction to her report.
- Georgette Cole asked for input pertaining to the proposed wording of the new 8 ft. clearance signs for Johnson Alley. The signs will say; "No Trucks" "Narrow Road" "8 ft. Wide". Georgette also asked for a decision about the proposed protective bollards for propane tanks located at #2 The Circle (located on 2nd Ave.) and #12 The Circle (located on Acorn Lane). Mayor Anderson stated that he did not think that the tank located on private property along Acorn Lane needed bollards. Charlie Challstrom suggested that the Town investigate the cost of moving the propane tank located on 2nd Avenue. The Town would pay for this move. It was decided that further research was necessary before the approval of the protective bollards.
- Joe Clark brought up the February 12th Safety Meeting and said that he would write a blurb for the March Bulletin. There was a brief discussion about the Neighborhood Watch Block Captain list and the possibility of including it in a future Town Bulletin.
- Kathie Evans stated that she hadn't included a report about McCathran Hall but that Ann Briggs had current information for the Council. Ann mentioned the new backpack vacuum cleaner, estimates for painting the newest section of the Town Hall (excluding the bathrooms which were done in 2003) and the on-going efforts to help with the problem of clogged gutters.
- Lake Security was mentioned. The Lake Committee was considering hiring an older lifeguard (40-something) to work with the younger guards, thus eliminating the expense of hiring a security guard. They will continue to discuss and research security issues at Maple Lake.

Georgette Cole asked if Jim's maintenance report could be a moved to the second monthly meeting rather than the first. It makes good sense to present it along with the Council Reports. The Council liked the idea.
Mayor's Announcements
- LOS Condemnation Update - Mayor Anderson stated that this was covered in the earlier Executive Session with the Town attorneys.
- Deer Park Bridge - nothing to report.
- Casey 6 & 7 - nothing to report.
New Business
Joe Clark moved to approve the January 2009 Council Reports for posting on the Town website. Kathie Evans seconded the motion. Vote: 6-0.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
